Vanessa's Art Space
Artist Statement

From the artist...

My ideal art work is to represent natural forms and images beyond what we might see in the waking world. I work with a multitude of tools such as markers, paints, inks, pencils, and watercolor which make me a mixed media artist who likes to add new skills to my palette.

There was a certain level of connection that had always driven me to continue making better works of art aiming towards more activity, like that of realism and surrealism. Looking back on my work it is clear that a majority is inspired by nature and the use of different mediums has allowed me to express my ideas and feelings in many creative ways.

Starting a new piece of work is sometimes daunting for me but once I gather some energy and play around with my tools at hand I am often able to pull together something beautiful within a few hours. The more time I give a project the more it develops and I get to find the pieces and parts I enjoy or would like to work on next. It is pretty rare for me to premeditate works step by step but rather I play as I go. This serves as a challenge for me and often ends with great reward.

In my own work as an artist I tend to focus on the formal elements and overall composition by working with many techniques. Common threads in my work are combinations of line work, stippling, thick applications of paint, and repeated details. I am interested in exploring various shapes and patterns that can live harmoniously together in a new environment. I am influenced by what my imagination suggests and the emotions that live in my mind or body to which I can give physical form. I traverse the journey between what is known and unknown to produce my own unique path as an artist and vessel of a being.
